Lessons for Adults

At Grove House Stables we have a wide range of horses to suit all ages and abilities of adult riders, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced jockey! We provide comprehensive equestrian training from hourly lessons through to examination courses.

Many of our adult riders return to riding after a period of time away from it, either because of work and family commitments or simply just that they have not had the opportunity to ride since childhood.

On your first visit to us we will arrange an assessment lesson of either 30 or 45 minutes (depending on your level of fitness and the price you are happy to pay). During this session, we will use the time to assess your current riding ability and level of fitness and to understand your aspirations/ambitions. We will then recommend suitable lessons for you in the future.

Prior to booking we will ask you how much riding you have done (and how long ago), your height, weight, date of birth, and a contact telephone number. On arrival we will ask you to complete a form telling us whether you have any medical conditions and will explain our cancellation policy .

We have a number of different types of lessons to suit each individual. These sessions can be mixed and matched according to your individual learning goals.

During the evenings we run both dressage and jumping sessions for more experienced riders wishing to “brush up” on their riding skills and wanting to progress further.

During the day- time and evening, we also have general group sessions (maximum of 8 riders) for improving and experienced riders (each group is ability based).

As a beginner we will concentrate initially on your confidence, co-ordination and balance. You will progress at your own speed moving onto the next stage when you are happy and you have established the basic skills. We have a motto, “your enjoyment is our priority”. The speed of your progression will depend on a number of factors, including how regularly you are able to ride, your level of fitness, and how comfortable you are around large animals. If you have natural balance and co-ordination you will find that you progress more easily. Anyone can learn to ride and we will work at your pace making sure that you enjoy the experience.
